School Uniform
At Longwick we believe that school uniform contributes to a positive and nurturing learning environment. We believe that a clearly defined and consistently applied uniform policy helps establish a shared sense of identity, promotes equality and reinforces the high expectations we have for all children.
We take pride in our school and expect the children to look smart and to wear the correct uniform at all times. We thank parents for ensuring that children come to school properly equipped and dressed.
Uniform Expectations
Winter Uniform
- Navy tailored trousers, shorts or knee-length skirt (no leggings, skorts or cycling shorts)
- Longwick School logo sweatshirt/cardigan/ fleece
- Jade colour polo shirt (plain or badged).
- Plain tights or socks in black, navy or white.
- Black school shoes
- Waterproof jacket (preferably dark black or navy)
- Wellies or change of shoes when weather is wet and muddy
Note: Children's shoes may become wet and muddy from the playground or wet grass. They may be asked to remove footwear indoors if it becomes excessively muddy, soaked or heavily soiled, to keep carpets and learning spaces clean.
Summer Uniform
- Navy tailored trousers, short or knee-length skirts (no leggings, skorts or cycling shorts)
- Dress in blue gingham or navy knee-length skirt (no skorts)
- Longwick School logo sweatshirt/cardigan/ fleece
- Jade colour polo shirt (plain or badged).
- Plain tights or socks in black, navy or white.
- Plain black school shoes
PE Uniform
- Longwick school plain or badged PE T-Shirt in jade
- Plain tracksuit top/ school fleece in navy
- Plain PE shorts in navy – (no skorts or cycling shorts)
- Plain tracksuit bottoms / leggings in navy
- Plain socks in white, navy or black
- Plain trainers in black or white
Note: The school does not permit skirts that are too tight, too short, skorts or cycling shorts as part of school or PE uniform. For safeguarding and comfort, children should wear knee‑length skirts, school dresses, or tailored trousers / shorts. These should all be of an appropriate length and sit just above the knee.
Forest and Farm School
- Long‑sleeved top - in all weathers
- Long trousers/leggings – in all weathers
- Jumper, fleece or sweatshirt
- Waterproof coat — if possible, different to the usual smart coat for everyday use
- Wellies/old trainers — essential in wet weather
- Hat — essential sun hat in summer; woolly hat in winter
- Gloves — not essential
- Thick socks — not essential
- Waterproof trousers — not essential
- Spare clothes YR, KS1— not essential – just in case of trips or spills
Footwear
- School shoes should be black
- School shoes should enclose the entire foot, preferably laced or Velcro.
- Completely plain, black, smart trainers may be acceptable. If unsure, please speak to the class teacher.
Not permitted: boots in any other colour than black, boots with adornments and accessories, crocs, sandals, Ugg-type footwear, ankle boots, shoes with heels, sliders, flip flops, strappy sandals and other inappropriate footwear.
In Spring and Summer as the children begin to grow out of their shoes, footwear can be replaced with a cheaper, plain black pair of sensible trainers that will see them through to the end of Summer term.
Other Essential Items
- Named Reception and KS1 - Bookbag
- Named KS2 - rucksack - no bigger than A4 size
- Named water bottle in school at all times
Jewellery ( Please see the ODBST Earring Statement below).
- Only small stud earrings are permitted, one per ear. They should be removed on PE days. School staff are not permitted to remove or cover earrings.
- Smart watches are not permitted
- Medical bracelets may be worn with an accompanying medical letter.
The school will not be held responsible for items that are lost or damaged on school premises.
Hair
- Shoulder length or longer hair must be tied with a simple bobble, hair-band or small bow in colours: plain navy blue, black or dark green
- Unnatural hair colouring (a colour that is not a natural hair colour) is not permitted, i.e. a bright, extreme or vivid dye colour or a combination of colours that is easily visible or stark in contrast. Permanent or temporary coloured hair sprays and dyes are not permitted.
- Hair cuts, that could serve as a distraction for other children, must be cut in a conventional manner - no markings, shaved shapes, lines or letters and not shorter than a grade 2.
Body Art
- Body paint, temporary tattoos and hand-drawn tattoos are not permitted except for religious purposes
- Make-up (including mascara and lip gloss) are not permitted at any time
- Nail varnish and nail extensions of any kind are not permitted at any time
Please ensure children do not attend school with any of these items. Children will be asked to remove make-up and tattoos in school time.

Inclusion
The school welcomes children from all backgrounds and faith communities. Reasons for modifications to our school uniform, such as religious, SEND, medical or other will be considered by the Head Teacher and SENDCo.
Parents who are unable to provide their child with the required items of school uniform should speak to the class teacher in the first instance.
We want to ensure that the cost of uniform does not lead to any child feeling socially excluded or unable to afford other necessities. School can provide support with the cost of uniform. If you would like to discuss assistance, please contact the school office in confidence.
Supporting Our Uniform Expectations
We expect all children to attend school wearing the agreed school uniform and appreciate the support of parents and carers in maintaining our high standards.
As part of our everyday school routines, staff may speak directly with children about their uniform, offering friendly reminders and encouraging them to take responsibility for meeting school expectations. These conversations will always be handled sensitively, respectfully and in an age-appropriate manner.
Where uniform expectations are not being met consistently, school staff will use their professional judgement to determine whether and when contact with parents or carers is necessary.

Second Hand Uniform
A supply of second-hand uniform can be purchased from ‘Friends of Longwick School’ who periodically hold a uniform sale at the start or end of the school day. Notice will be given nearer to the time. Alternatively you can also request uniform using the order form from the school office.
