Welcome to Year One

Welcome to our Year One class page!

We will be using this page to keep you up to date with all of the exciting learning that will be taking place this year.

PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOUR CHILD'S READING RECORD AND READING BOOK ARE SENT INTO SCHOOL EVERY DAY.

THE CHILDREN ARE EXPECTED TO HAND THESE IN FOR CHECKING ON A DAILY BASIS.

SPELLING HOMEWORK BOOKS SHOULD BE HANDED IN ON A MONDAY.

NEW SPELLING HOMEWORK WILL BE SENT HOME ON A WEDNESDAY.

(Spelling test results are at the back of these books)

YEAR ONE PE DAYS ARE MONDAYS AND WEDNESDAYS - PLEASE WEAR KIT ON THESE DAYS.

Phonics and Reading

For information on supporting your child  with their phonics and reading, please follow the link below.

Click here for Little Wandle Phonics Information for Parents

How else can I support my child at home?

  • Ensure that all items are clearly labelled. Show your child where to find their name in their clothing. This will help to build their independence when looking after their belongings and taking responsibility at home time.
  • Support your child to practise logging into their Purple Mash accounts. We use Purple Mash for our Computing lessons and it would really help the children if they became confident at logging in independently.
  • Provide opportunities to develop your child's fine-motor skills - show your child how to hold scissors and pencils correctly.
  • Practise correct letter formation and number formation (and orientation). You can find these below. You can support your child by encouraging them to sit their writing on the line when writing.
  • Read together EVERY DAY!

Please do not let small issues become big issues - if you need a chat, please catch the class staff at the door. Alternatively, send a message via Class Dojo. If you require a longer conversation, please contact the school office to arrange a time to meet.
