School Day


The school day starts at 8.45am. Children should not be on the premises before 8.35am, when staff supervision is in place. The Dorrells Road gates will be locked at 8.50am for security purposes.

 

The school day ends at 3.20pm for EYFS & KS1 and 3.30pm for KS2.


The teaching time for pupils varies with the age of the child so the school day is divided differently for Key Stage 1 (KS1) and Key Stage 2 (KS2) as follows:

EYFS & KS1 (4-7+)        8.45 – 12.00 noon            12.00 - 1.00pm           1.00 – 3.20pm
KS2 (7-11)                      8.45 – 12.15 noon            12.15 - 1.15pm           1.15 – 3.30pm


All children have a 15 minute break in the morning (10.30 - 10.45am).

 

Children in KS1 have an additional 15 minute break in the afternoon (2.10 – 2.25pm).


The minimum weekly teaching time (excluding break times, registration and collective worship) is 23 hours 30 minutes for KS1 and 24 hours 45 minutes for KS2.


A typical day at Longwick is as follows:

EYFS

8.35am Staff on playground duty

8.45- 09.00am Registration and organising belongings

9.00-9.20am Collective Worship 

9.20-9.40am Phonics

9.40-9.50am Snack

9.50-11.10am Independent learning

11.10-11.20am Tidy up time

11.20-11.40am Maths

11.40-11.45am Get ready for lunch

11.45am-12.45pm Lunch

12.45-12.55pm Registration

12.55-1.15pm English/ Topic 

1.15-2.30pm Independent learning

2.30-2.40pm Tidy up time

2.40-3.00pm Story time

3.00-3.20pm Getting ready for end of the day

(The children will have 1 hour of PE 2 afternoons a week)

 

KS1 
8.35am Staff on playground duty
8.45- 09.00am Registration and Early work
9.00 - 9.20am Collective Worship 20 minutes
9.20 - 10.30am Session 1 Phonics and English 70 minutes
10.30 – 10.45am Break 

10.45 - 11.45am Session 2- Maths 60 minutes
11.45-12.00- Session 3 15 minutes
12.00 - 1.00pm Lunch 1 hour
1.00 - 1.10pm Registration
1.10 - 2.10pm Session 4 1 hour
2.10 - 2.25pm Break 15 minutes
2.25 - 3:30pm Session 5 55 minutes
Actual teaching time – 5hrs 35 minutes


Key Stage 2
8.35am Staff on playground duty
8.45 – 09.00am Registration and Early work
09.00 – 09.20am Collective Worship 20 minutes
9.20 - 10.30am Session 2 1 hour 10 minutes
